Super Bowl Commercials

If you’re not sick of Super Bowl XLII and the surrounding hype just yet, you might want to head on over to this page at USA Today, where you can view a bunch of different commercials that aired during the big game.

Unlike other sites that are hosting Super Bowl videos, USA Today loads quickly and doesn’t have commercials within the commercials — meaning you don’t have to sit through 30 seconds of other advertising before getting to the Super Bowl commercials.

In addition, you can vote on your favorite commercials, and see how the commercials rank according to various age/gender/income metrics.

I agree that the Budweiser commercial, where the dog trains a Clydesdale with Rocky music in the background was good (it’s #1 on the list), but I thought the commercial with Charles Barkley calling D-Wade every five seconds is underrated on the site. That one was pretty funny, and should be a lot higher than 28!

Anyway, check it out if you have some time to waste today.

“Grey’s” Finale Tonight

I mistakenly thought that last week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy was the season finale, but I just saw on Zap2It.com that the actual finale is tonight. I started reading a little bit about what’s going to happen and was elated to discover that Meredith and Derek might break up!! God, I hate those two as a couple. They are just so boring and *blah* that it’s practically torture to watch them together. They’ve been together for three years already (an eternity in TV land), so if they’re not going to get married, just let them split up so we can see something (someone?) else for a change!

Oh, and can we please get rid of that freakin’ idiotic Jane Doe/Alex Karev storyline please? Pretty please??? She has been around for, what, 10 episodes now? So. Boring.

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo

Unless you’re into anime, you probably think the title of this post is nothing more than gibberish. But that’s not the case; it’s actually the name of an anime series that is currently airing on the Cartoon Network.

Since I live in Japan for half the year, I’ve been able to consume a fairly decent amount of anime in my time. It’s usually stuff that my husband watches, like Dragon Ball Z, Gundam, Naruto, and other popular shows like that. The ones I just listed are all pretty tame and straightforward as far as storylines go, so I was expecting more or less the same thing from Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. How wrong I was!

I just got done watching a couple of episodes and have to say that Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is one of the wildest (and funniest) anime I’ve seen in a long time. The hero of the show is Bo-bobo, a guy who sports a blond afro and fights off enemies with the aid of his powerful, 5-foot long nose hairs. His main target is the evil Baldy Bald IV and his band of “Hair Hunt” soldiers whose agenda is to shave off the hair of unsuspecting citizens (like the pink-maned girl Beauty) to promote their whole “skin is in” philosophy. I told you this one was pretty wild — you really must check out the Official Website!

The DVDs of Bobobo-bo-Bo-bobo are available at Illumitoon.com. Early versions were released with English “Dubtitles” (the English translation of the script) instead of Japanese subtitles, but after listening to customer requests, Illumitoon has decided to release DVDs with Japanese subtitles from here on out. In addition, Illumitoon is willing to accommodate fans who bought the Dubtitle versions by offering a trade-in program to get the subtitled discs. For more info on the trade-in program, click here: Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo trade-in.

Overall, I think Bo-bobo seems like an anime series worth watching. If nothing else, it’s hilarious and completely different from everything else out there!

Good TV Couples?

I was fooling around on YouTube this morning when I came across some video clips that West Wing fans put together of Josh and Donna. You can see a bunch of them by following this link or simply searching for the terms “josh donna” on YouTube.com.

Josh & Donna Clips

It was so nice seeing these clips again. It made me realize how much I miss The West Wing, and even more, how much I miss great relationships and/or chemistry in my TV shows. When I think back over the years, I’ve almost always had a great couple to follow. In the mid-1980’s it was Maddie and David on Moonlighting; in the early to mid ’90s it was Mulder and Scully on The X-Files; then in the late ’90s through last year, it was Josh and Donna on The West Wing.

After taking stock of the shows I watch now, I realize that there’s not a single couple that turns me into a ’shipper. I watch 24, CSI, Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother, The Sopranos, Prison Break, and Grey’s Anatomy pretty regularly. The only couple I’m even slightly interested in out of all those shows is Michael Scofield and Sara Tancredi from Prison Break, but they’re hardly ever on screen together, so it’s not very fun to be a ’shipper for that show. GA has a lot of couples, but I don’t like any of them because they’re all so dysfunctional.

So what am I missing? Are there any shows out there with a truly great couple that practically burns up the screen with their chemistry? Let me know!

Tyra Banks Fan

I was watching Larry King Live a bit earlier tonight. Tyra Banks was his guest, and even though I’d heard of her before, I never really knew anything about her. I’ve never seen her talk show or America’s Next Top Model, so basically I’d never heard her speak before.

Let me tell you, I was VERY impressed by Tyra. She is not only intelligent and articulate, but she seems extremely kind and caring as well. I like how she’s using her talk show and America’s Next Top Model to show young women that it’s ok not to look like the anorexic actresses and models that are in every magazine on the newsstands.

I was actually just flipping channels and wasn’t planning on watching Larry King, but Banks came across as so sincere that I stayed put and watched the last 45 minutes of her interview. I am now a Tyra Banks fan and will try to catch America’s Next Top Model when it airs on Feb. 28.

“24″ Character Bios

I was looking up something about the TV show 24 today and checked the official site on FOX for, like, the first time ever, I think. I didn’t realize that there were extensive character bios on that site. I read through some of them and couldn’t believe the backgrounds that these people have.

For example, Jack was an English lit major at UCLA and then went to UC Berkeley for his Master’s degree in ciminology and law!! Also, Karen Hayes went to Princeton and the FBI Academy, Bill Buchanan was an English major at Brown (aww, an Ivy League matchup right there), and Chloe went to UC Davis.

Interesting! I should start checking out these official websites more often!

Golden Globes

I didn’t watch the Golden Globes last night because I’ve just never been interested in that particular awards show. I pretty much just watch the Oscars and the Emmys and leave it at that. Anywa, I was scanning the list of nominees/winners this morning and was shocked to see that Ellen Pompeo was nominated for her role as Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy.

I love that show, but think that Pompeo is actually one of the weaker actresses on it. Sandra Oh is consistently head and shoulders above Pompeo, IMHO, and so are Chandra Wilson and Kate Walsh. Who comes up with these nominations anyway?

Countdown to “24″ Premiere!

Now that we’ve got less than a week left until the premiere of 24, I am getting extremely anxious. I can’t wait to see what the new season is going to bring! I’ve been watching this show from the beginning, and it’s definitely one of my favorite television programs right now. Yes, I know it has gotten predictable and repetitive over the years, but that doesn’t bother me. Now perhaps if we get yet another mole inside CTU and if Jack escapes from another 10 near-death situations I might become a bit perturbed. But I’d still watch.

If you’re planning on recording the show, remember that it premieres on Sunday the 14th with back-to-back episodes, and then it comes on again on the 15th with another set of back-to-back eps. After that, the regular timeslot will be Monday and the show will be on for 20 consecutive weeks.

Can’t wait!!!

The O.C. Cancelled…

I heard that the FOX show The O.C. has been cancelled. I actually tried watching that show when it first came on because of all the hype it was getting. But frankly, I couldn’t see what the big deal was about. I thought the main character Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie) was boring — all of his problems have been done to death in other teen dramas. The poor, working-class outsider? Yawn. Plus, I thought the acting sucked!

Now with both Justice and The O.C. cancelled, I wonder what kind of new shows FOX will be bringing in. It doesn’t seem that they’ve been doing very well lately, so I hope they come up with something big!

Best TV Characters of 2006

Neil Patrick Harris Barney Stinson How I Met Your MotherI mentioned before that I’ve started going to Zap2it.com for my television listings. I just recently switched over, so I’m still getting a feel for the site and its features. Today as I was browsing around, I came across the TV Gal’s picks for Top 10 Characters for 2006. The article is a few weeks old, so you might have seen it already. If not, go check it out.

For those of you who are short on time, here’s a quick run-down of the list:

1. Deputy Chief Johnson on “The Closer”
2. Cristina Yang on “Grey’s Anatomy”
3. Jim Halpert on “The Office”
4. Logan Echolls on “Veronica Mars”
5. Barney Stinson on “How I Met Your Mother”
6. Jack Bauer on “24″
7. John Locke on “Lost”
8. Lynette Scavo on “Desperate Housewives”
9. Dr. Sara Tancredi on “Prison Break”
10. Abby Lockhart on “ER”

I am only familiar with 6 of the shows on the list, and I pretty much agree with TV Gal’s picks for those — except for Barney on HIMYM. Almost everyone who watches that show thinks he’s the best, but I disagree. I like Lily (and even Ted) so much more!

Tired of Reruns!

Prison Break Cast Wentworth Miller Sara Wayne CalliesIf there’s one thing I hate about the month of December (other than all the craziness that goes along with the holidays) it’s the fact that all my favorite television shows go on a long hiatus. I know I watch too much television, but I don’t care! I’m unapologetic about my viewing habits and always have been. I am starting to suffer withdrawals from not seeing new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, Prison Break, and Desperate Housewives for so long. I also miss 24, but one good thing about that series starting so late in the season is that it runs straight through and doesn’t skip any weeks.

Wish I had money for this…

Alias DVD Box SetI was browsing through Amazon.com just now and saw that they’re having a special sale on the complete 5-season set of Alias DVDs. The set contains 29 discs featuring all the regular episodes of the TV show plus a bunch of extra behind-the-scenes features. The regular price on Amazon is $199.99, but today it’s on sale for $149.99. Actually I don’t know if it’s a “today only” kind of deal or not (I haven’t checked Amazon in awhile). Either way, I don’t have the cash for it because as I pointed out earlier, I’m saving up for Christmas presents for my husband and son. Hopefully this low price will be around after the New Year when I should have a bit more breathing room, financially speaking.

Lane Garrison in Car Crash

As most of you know, I watch the FOX drama Prison Break regularly. I just read that Lane Garrison, better known to PB fans as Tweener, was in a car crash that left one person dead. This AP report that appeared on Yahoo isn’t too clear on the details, but it sounds like all four people involved in the crash were riding in the same car. It’s uncertain at this point whether Garrison was driving or not.

It’s interesting that the other three people in the car were all underage. The boy who died was 17, and the two girls were both 15. Garrison is 26. I wonder what that’s all about?

Grey’s Anatomy Last Night

For the first time in a long time, I didn’t enjoy watching Grey’s Anatomy. I can’t quite put my finger on a specific reason, but it just felt as though I’d seen the same conflicts, reactions, etc. before.

George was being a pissy little whiner the whole time again, and is now officially the character that I like the least. Yes, his dad is having major health problems, but George is a doctor. He should be able to act more professional and stop snapping at his co-workers or stomping his feet when he doesn’t get his way. I’m begging the writers to please bring George back to normal again!

Another episode with Sloan ordering his intern to get coffee and sandwiches. Yeah, we get it. The guy’s a jerk. Can they give him another shtick already?

The only part I like about the whole show was in the locker room at the end when Meredith called everyone out on their B.S. behavior. She was right about Cristina being there for all of them when they messed up, but she did make a mistake about that whole “007″ thing… ooops! Plus that gave George yet another reason to storm off. Ugh.

I think the show is going on hiatus until January now? Not sure on that. I’ll probably be dying for a new episode by then and will forget that I ever disliked this one!
