Thank god for TV!

Thank god the new TV season is here! I watched Castle last night, and am anxiously awaiting the premieres of NCIS, Modern Family, Criminal Minds, Community, The Good Wife, and the rest of the shows that I love! Say what you want about what the “boob tube” does to brain cells, but I have been an unapologetic TV fanatic since I was a kid (and I think I turned out fairly well). Also, the Blackhawks play their first exhibition game of the year tonight, so I’m doubly happy about my burgeoning entertainment prospects for the next 6-8 months or so!

Kim Kardashian’s $17m wedding

No, $17 million isn’t how much the recent wedding between Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian cost; it’s how much revenue the event is expected to generate once all is said and done! That figure, which is on the high end of the various estimates I’ve seen, takes into account things like television ad sales from when the event will air on E!, as well as a $1.5 million exclusive photo deal from People Magazine, and a bunch of other gifts and donations (bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, wedding dress, wedding cake, etc.) from companies wanting the massive exposure. Wow, I barely know anything about Kim Kardashian, but being able to make $17m off your wedding says a lot!

Missing “Grey’s Anatomy”

I was making a list of the television shows I currently watch, and realized that I don’t follow any medical dramas anymore. I used to watch House and Grey’s Anatomy religiously, but gave up on both shows a couple seasons ago. While I barely miss House at all, I do find myself thinking of the characters from Grey’s every once in a while… especially Izzie Stevens, as played by Katherine Heigl.

I’m talking about Izzie from the early seasons, though. Before she got entangled with Denny and that whole mess. She was an awesome character — and not just because she looked hot in her nursing scrubs. She was smart and fiery and feisty, and was a lot of fun to watch. Much more so than dour Meredith and soulless Alex.

As soon as Heigl left the show, I stopped watching Grey’s. None of the other characters seemed worth following without Izzie there too. I’ve heard talk that Heigl might make a guest appearance on the show one of these days, and I’d definitely tune in for that. But as it is, I wish the show had never veered from focusing on the “core four.” Those intern days were amazing. I’m so glad I have the DVDs so I can watch the good stuff again and again!

Andrew Garfield Oscar Snub

I usually don’t pay much attention to Oscar nominations and snubs, but this year I couldn’t help but notice that Andrew Garfield, the guy who played Eduardo Saverin, one of the co-founders of Facebook who subsequently sued Mark Zuckerberg after essentially being forced out of the company. I thought Garfield turned in a tremendous performance and was 1,000 times better than Jesse Eisenberg, who did get nominated. Wow, I can’t believe that. Zuckerberg’s performance was just a one-note affair that consisted of looking wholly disinterested in anything that was going on, and then making smart-ass remarks when he was forced to speak. BFD. Garfield made the film worth watching!!!

Aniston hated “The Rachel”?!

I’m not sure how accurate this report is, but I just read a little blurb on Yahoo that said Jennifer Aniston hated her Friends haircut known as “The Rachel” (pictured here). In an upcoming issue of Allure magazine, Aniston is quoted as saying, “I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen.”

What?!?! Is she serious? That’s the look that made her career! I thought she looked damned good with that hairstyle and can’t believe she actually thought it was ugly. I can understand her getting sick of it since the producers made her keep it for so long, but it wasn’t ugly at all.

I never had a Rachel cut myself, but that’s because I prefer wash ‘n’ go styles that require zero effort at all. I can’t imagine having a hairstyle that takes 30 minutes or an hour to set up.

John Goodman

Wow, have you seen pictures of John Goodman recently? I was just looking through a celebrity gossip site and saw these side by side photos of John that show how much weight he’s lost. He used to tip the scales at more than 400 pounds, but now looks a lot slimmer and healthier. I wonder what he did to drop all those pounds. Obviously he can pay for a personal trainer, personal chef, and lifetime supply of fat burning supplements, which would of course make things a bit easier. Still, you have to want to lose weight and stick to some kind of regimen, so I give him a lot of credit for making this lifestyle change!

Tonight will be the last-ever episode of Larry King Live. I was never a particular fan of the show and have seen perhaps two or three full-length interviews on that program, but I plan on tuning in for the farewell. What I’m even more excited about, however, is the prospect of Piers Morgan taking over the time slot in mid-January. I really like Piers, and think he will be an excellent replacement.

Anyway, kudos to Larry King. Like him or not, it’s a real accomplishment to have been around for this long and to have interviewed that many important people.
