I was browsing through the Buy.com holiday gift guide today to get some ideas so I can finish off my Christmas shopping when I came across something kind of interesting. It’s called the ESPN Ultimate Universal Remote Control, a gadget I’d never seen or heard of before. But after reading the product description, I am intrigued and want to try it out.
The ESPN Universal Remote is a device that looks pretty much like a cell phone. But it’s a remote that can control the TV, HDTV, DVD player, DVR, and audio equipment. It’s fully programmable to save and store favorite channels and all that, which is the least you’d expect from a universal remote.
But what makes the ESPN universal remote so different is that it can serve as a mini Internet browser as well, giving you access to your favorite websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, email, and more. Plus, because this remote is targeted at ESPN/sports fans, you can get instant access to real-time scores, fantasy stats, standings, and everything else you’d normally find on ESPN.
I think this remote sounds kind of cool, and since it’s on sale for $109.99 (down from the regular list price of $299), it might be worth a try. I’m often bored when I’m watching TV, and it’s not uncommon for me to head back to my desk to fire up my computer right in the middle of a show. This remote would make it a lot easier to do basic things like check my email or update my Facebook status. I want to read some user reviews before I buy it though. Do you know anyone who has one of these remotes?
