Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair, who played for the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens prior to retiring in 2008, was found shot to death at a Nashville condo yesterday. Though the story was widely published by news outlets everywhere, details were murky. Today, a few more emerged, the most significant being that the Nashville PD has ruled McNair’s death a homicide.
Investigators are still trying to piece together what might have happened. McNair was found in a condo with 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi, a woman he had been seeing for the past four months, according to a person familiar with the situation. McNair was still married, however, and had four children with wife Michelle.
McNair was shot four times, including twice in the head. I’ve watched enough CSI to know that this indicates the killing was personal, and not committed by some random stranger off the street. Moreover, investigators said that Kazemi was shot just once and the gun was found under her body. Still, investigators are not ruling the incident a case of murder-suicide yet — though to outsiders that certainly seems to be the case.
I wasn’t much of a McNair fan and didn’t get to see him play very many times since he was in the AFC, but from everything I’ve read, he sounded like a stand-up guy. (Well, aside from the adultery, of course.) This is definitely a sad situation and sounds like something that could have been avoided. What the hell was he doing with a 20-year-old anyway???
