A big pet peeve of mine when it comes to online news reports is that there are hardly ever any follow-ups done on the stories that I read. I’m not talking about the big, ongoing national stories like the economic crisis or the election; I mean the human interest items that somehow make it to the national stage.
For instance, back in July a 7-year-old boy was hit in the head by a foul ball while attending his first game at Wrigley Field. He suffered a cracked skull and was in a coma. But beyond the first two days after the story broke, I didn’t hear anything else about him. Was there going to be any permanent damage? Did he recover? Did his family hire a Chicago accident attorney to try to obtain compensation?
I never saw a follow-up to this on any of the national news sites (which is where I first heard of the story), but did find a short blurb in the Trib when I searched for info today. Apparently, Dominic DiAngi, is perfectly fine now. He even made it back to Wrigley on his 8th birthday and tossed out the first pitch to Ted Lilly — the guy whose foul ball hit him in the first place.
Cool ending, huh? I can’t understand why the national media wouldn’t want to follow up on that!
