The Chicago Bears positively dominated the Detroit Lions today, jumping out to a 31-0 lead before eventually holding on to win 34-7. Yes, it’s just the Lions, and yes the Lions are vying with the Rams for the No. 1 draft pick in ‘09, but this was exactly the kind of game the Bears needed. To think: they could legitimately be 5-0 or 4-1 at this point if not for a couple of fourth quarter meltdowns. There might be something to this team after all!
Kyle Orton looked superb on the field today. (I know, it’s just the Lions!) He threw for a career-high 334 yards and 2 TDs — and what’s even more important, he didn’t turn the ball over. Orton was poised and confident, and definitely showed that he belongs out there as the Bears starter.
The defense was stifling, allowing the one touchdown only after Devin Hester fumbled the ball near Chicago’s 30. If not for that turnover, the D would likely have had a shutout because the Lions simply couldn’t generate any offense at all. They only gained 185 total yards in the game, and were truly dismal.
It was a solid game all around for Chicago, and I was happy with the performance. Whenever the Bears win on Sunday, it always makes the rest of the week a little easier to take!
