I haven’t been following professional motocross this year as much as I usually do, but I still check the results every Monday. The big news coming out of yesterday’s event at Red Bud in Michigan was that team Makita Suzuki’s Mike Alessi crashed hard at the beginning of the second moto. Every account I read described the crash as “horrific”, and I want to tell you that that’s exactly what it is. My God, I can’t even watch this video (shot by a fan) without feeling sick to my stomach.

Surprisingly, Mike emerged from the crash with just two broken scapulas, a broken rib or two, and a bruised lung. I say “just” because when you see what happened to him, you’ll realize that the kid is lucky to be alive. Wow.
