Tax extension

Tomorrow is April 15, which of course means it’s the deadline for filing your 2007 tax return. If you haven’t completed your return yet, don’t worry. It’s not as though you have to pull an all-nighter or anything to get it done. All you have to do is file for an automatic tax extension and you’ll get six more months to work with. I wish some of my college professors were as lenient as Uncle Sam!

Anyway, all you have to do is go to IRS.gov and download form 4868 (the link I just posted automatically opens a PDF file), which you can then fill out and file electronically or by snail mail.

Just remember that filing a tax extension doesn’t get you off the hook as far as paying any money you might owe. If you owe a big chunk, you’ll probably want to send a check along with your form 4868, otherwise you’ll be subject to interest charges and/or additional penalties until you pay off your tax bill in full.

Good luck!!
