Florida quarterback Tim Tebow won the Heisman Trophy last night, becoming the first sophomore to win the award in its 73-year history. Tebow garnered 462 first-place votes and 1,957 total points, while runner-up Darren McFadden of Arkansas received 291 first-place votes and 1,702 total points. Quarter backs Colt Brennan and Chase Daniel were a distant third and fourth, respectively.
Tebow came off a great season stats-wise, throwing for more than 3,132 yards and 29 touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 838 yards and 22 TDs. His combined 20-20 in passing and rushing touchdowns was a first, as well, so obviously Tebow attracted a lot of Heisman attention all season long.
Anyway, he’ll be back at Florida next year, and it will be interesting to see if he can lead the Gators to another BCS championship. He and coach Urban Meyer make for a tremendous offensive threat, don’t they?
