Once again, the Bears looked extremely sloppy on both sides of the ball in this afternoon’s game against the Denver Broncos. Sure, some of it can be attributed to the weather, but more often than not, all the team’s mistakes were just the result of poor play. Chicago had four turnovers on the day, three of them thanks to starting QB Rex Grossman (an INT and two fumbles lost).
Nevertheless, thanks to the amazing Devin Hester who returned a punt and a kickoff for TDs, the Bears were able to hang around until the 4th quarter, where they were behind by seven points and driving down the field with 2 minutes left. Then Grossman was suddenly able to string a couple of completions together, taking the team all the way down to 3 yard line. And on 4th and goal, Grossman somehow found Bernard Berrian in the corner of the end zone, where Berrian made an incredible grab for the TD. WOW!!
The game then went into OT, where the Bears won the coin toss for first crack at a score. Grossman connected with tight end Desmond Clark for a huge 39-yard gain, then several Adrian Peterson runs put the ball at the Denver 21. Robbie Gould’s field goal attempt split the uprights, and the Bears came out with a 37-34 victory!!
This was a nail-biter for sure, and I am just happy that the team was able to win. Their record is now 5-6, so their slim playoff hopes are still alive for another week. And to think — I almost turned the game off when the Broncos went up 34-20 because the Bears never come back from big deficits like that!!!!! Awesome game
