BTT: Comfort Food

Booking Through Thursday

Okay . . . picture this (really) worst-case scenario: It’s cold and raining, your boyfriend/girlfriend has just dumped you, you’ve just been fired, the pile of unpaid bills is sky-high, your beloved pet has recently died, and you think you’re coming down with a cold. All you want to do (other than hiding under the covers) is to curl up with a good book, something warm and comforting that will make you feel better.

What do you read?

After thinking about this question for a while, I’ve realized that isn’t really a particular author that I turn to for “comfort.” I guess I don’t view books in that way — at least not anymore. Now if those things happened to me, I’d probably just vege out in front of the TV where I wouldn’t have to actually think about anything.

Getting back to the point: there are certain authors whose works I’ve read time and again just because I enjoy them so much. I would read anything by Fitzgerald, Dickens, Waugh, or Hardy anytime, but most of their subject matter is far too depressing to turn to in this week’s given scenario.
