Now that football season is in full swing, I thought I’d write about my gameday rituals. Every diehard football fan has them: the little things you do before, during, and after every game that your home team plays in. Here are a few of mine.
First, I wake up early on Sunday morning to make sure I can get all my chores and errands done before the game starts. I like watching the game in a clean house with the peace of mind that comes with knowing the clothes and dishes are washed, the floors are vacuumed or swept, and the beds are made. The Bears usually play at noon, so that doesn’t give me a lot of time to get this stuff done.
Once the housework is finished, I run out to the store to get my gametime snacks. This changes from week to week, but I like to have some kind of chips and dip, as well as Coke or beer (depending on what kind of mood I’m in). I also pick up a fast food lunch on the way home. Could be Mcdonald’s, could be Burger King. Recently I’ve been eating at Portillo’s a lot, so that’s always a possibility too.
Finally, I change into my Tom Brady jersey (what can I say? I love him!) and some comfortable sweatpants, tell my husband (who’s not a big football fan) to take care of my son for the next few hours, and curl up on the couch with all my stuff. I also have my laptop there with me so I can chat with football friends on IM and monitor my fantasy football stats. The only thing that would make this routine better is if I had home theater seating in my living room. That would make my day just about perfect.
I’m sure this is something that non football fans probably have a hard time understanding, but those 3 hours on Sunday are the best part of my week!
