It’s just the second week of the college football season, but Michigan is done for. Everyone knows by now that the Wolverines suffered one of the greatest upsets in NCAA history last week when they fell to Appalachian State. That loss was enough to knock Michigan out of the rankings, even though they entered the season at #5.
Things didn’t get any better today when the Wolverines faced Oregon, again at the Big House. This time they were blown out by a score of 39-7, leaving fans wondering what is going on with Lloyd Carr’s squad. The 32-point loss was the worst for the team since 1968, and if you include the final two games of last year, the Wolverines have now lost 4 in a row.
What a tailspin for a team that was supposed to contend for the National Championship this year. I feel sorry for all the staff members who have to man the reception desks around the Ann Arbor campus on Monday because I just know that there will be thousands of phone calls from angry alumni demanding answers about the football program. I wouldn’t want to have to deal with that mess!
It’s going to take a major turnaround for Coach Carr to salvage his job. Let’s see if he can make it through the whole season. If Michigan loses to Notre Dame next week, things are gonna get even uglier!
