Ugh, I’m roasting! I’ve been looking for ways to cut down on our energy bills, which in the summer mostly means using the air conditioner as little as possible. So I checked out some websites for tips on how to stay cool without AC.
Many of the sites that I came across suggested the following technique: close all windows, doors, blinds, and curtains during the daytime hours when the sun is at its hottest, and then open everything up again only at night when it’s cooler outside than it is in the house. In the meantime, you’re supposed to use a couple of fans inside to help with airflow and so forth.
Well, I tried this even though it seems so counterintuitive. I lasted about an hour before the stuffiness, heat, darkness, and general oppression started to get to me. My place turned into an oven in that hour! Let’s just say the AC is on now and I won’t be trying that last experiment again anytime soon!
