In the past couple months or so, I’ve been looking at ways to become a more active blogger and to invite more activity from my readers. A fellow blogger suggested using a WordPress plugin called Do Follow to override the default no-follow settings in comments. In other words, all outgoing links left in my comments section will get picked up by search engines, thus giving commenters extra incentive for leaving some remarks.
So Colleen over at GeekySpeaky has started something called the D List to help make it easier to keep track of which blogs use the Do Follow plugin. This is a great idea, so I’m happy to join in. If you want to participate, follow the instructions below:
***Begin to copy here***
1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.
2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.
3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.
4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW us using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the “My Adds” section. (Add no more than 5!) Let the people you’ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!
5. Leave relevant comments on the blogs listed and get a link back to your site thanks to Do Follow!
My Adds:
The Fire Pit

The Originals:
Midlife Musings

[…] Did you know that when you leave a comment on a WordPress blog, a “no follow” tag is automatically inserted into the comment? The “no follow” tag tells search engines not to bother following that link. Everyone who blogs with WordPress should add the Do Follow Plugin to their site so that each person who leaves you a comment is getting “link love” from you. The plugin strips that “no follow” attribute from your comments, so each comment you leave generates a backlink for you. There are several different Do Follow plugins for WordPress; I use this one from Semiologic. To make it easier to know which blogs have already added the Do Follow plugin, Colleen at GeekySpeaky created the “D” list. I’d like to thank J.E. at The Fire Pit for adding me to the list! It is open to anyone using the Do Follow, so if you want to participate, follow these instructions: […]
