Millionaire Dating Site

I just heard about a site called Date a Millionaire, and as you can guess from the name, it’s supposed to be a place to go if you’re interested in the millionaire dating scene. However, I’m not convinced that the site fully lives up to its claims.

I spent some time browsing around, and the first thing I wanted to know was, “Are these people really millionaires?” I checked the FAQ section and it doesn’t say anything about needing a minimum income in order to join the site. I thought that might be because some millionaires want to date regular people or whatever, so I’m giving the site the benefit of the doubt here.

But then I went and searched the personals (where I can specify income levels) and checked the $1,000,000 - $2,500,000 box. I got zero results, even though I left all the other parameters at “any”.

I guess I don’t understand the point of this site. If it bills itself as a “millionaire dating site” then there should be millionaires on there, correct? And if there already are millionaires on the site, they should be easier to find — because I’m assuming that’s why people would go to this particular singles site instead of other ones.

Check it out if you want to, but don’t expect to meet an actual millionaire anytime soon.

Super Bowl Saturday?

Ok, moving the Super Bowl to Saturday isn’t exactly a new idea, but it’s taking on even more relevance for me this year. I just read Eric Zorn’s column on the Trib website, and I’m all for having the SB played on Saturday. Apparently, so are 90% of the people who responsded to Zorn’s poll. He’s right in saying that Sunday is just not a party day, and as I look over the schedule for my upcoming Super Bowl party, I know that I’m going to be pretty useless the next day.

I think the reasons that people have given for keeping the Super Bowl on Sunday are pretty weak. It would be a much bigger party and much bigger deal if it were on a Saturday. Who’s in charge of this stuff? Change it!!

Get Cash Back for Shopping

When I was growing up, my family didn’t have a lot of money. My parents were very budget-conscious and spent their money only after careful consideration. We only went to stores that offered products of reasonable quality for the lowest prices possible, which is why we shopped at jcpenney so often.

I guess old habits die hard, because even though I’m doing much better now, I still like to shop at Penney’s and I still like to use coupons too. The deals I find at Penney’s are made even sweeter by the coupons and cash back offers that are available every day over at ebates.com. All I had to do was sign up for a free membership in order to gain access to coupons and discounts for over 800 stores, including JCPenney. Plus, I earn 4% cash back whenever I make a purchase through that ebates.com, so that’s another way to save.

Check out ebates.com for yourself and see how much cash you can get back on all your purchases!

Are you a saver or a spender?

I just got done reading an article that says personal savings in the U.S. has dropped to its lowest levels in 74 years. According to the article, the 2006 savings rate was -1%, which indicates that people were spending beyond their means and either had to use up savings they had already accumulated or use credit.

So are you part of the crowd that spent more than you earned last year? Or are you the opposite?

This whole savings issue is interesting to me because in Japan, where I have a second home, the average person has an astounding amount of personal savings. I can’t find specific data right now, but I’ve heard figures anywhere from $60,000 to $100,000 — on average!! We’re talking about money that just sits in a savings account earning 0.0001% interest (or whatever). I think that’s pretty crazy.

My husband and I are nowhere near that average, but we do tend to be more conscious of how we spend our money. We try to save something every month, even if it’s just $100. Hey, it all adds up in the end, right?

Favorite Online Store

I do so much online shopping that it’s hard for me to pick a single store as my favorite. If pressed, however, I guess I would say that Overstock.com is the best. I just love the variety of high quality, brand-name products that they have, and of course their prices are excellent. Plus, I can always save even more money on my purchases by using coupon codes whenever I shop.

Ever since I found out about CouponChief.com a few months ago, I’ve found numerous Overstock coupons that I could use. And with Valentine’s Day coming up soon, I’m sure I’ll be buying a few more things this month too!

HP Puzzle Winner

The HP/PPP scavenger hunt is over, and Karen has been declared the winner. She collected all the pieces, found the key, reassembled the collage, and grabbed the $1,000 opp before anyone else.

From what I understand, it took a big hint from PPP to help posties uncover the elusive #2 piece and the special key. I wasn’t playing, but I was monitoring the forums at the time, and people were definitely going crazy trying to find those pieces!

At any rate, congrats go out to Karen. Spend that $1,000 wisely!!!
