Did you know that November is National Novel Writing Month? Apparently, there’s an organization that encourages would-be novelists to dedicate the month of November to working on and completing a 50,000-word novel over the course of 30 days. That works out to close to 1,700 words per day, which actually isn’t very much. According to the article I read on Yahoo, nearly 60,000 people participated last year, with 10,000 of them actually achieving their goal.

I have been making a living as a writer for almost two years now, but all of my work is in the realm of nonfiction. As with most writers, however, I do have several ideas for short stories or novels and would certainly like to try that genre someday. Unfortunately, I have too many bills to pay right now and can’t afford to devote my energy to a novel.

In the meantime, I still do jot down ideas and lines of dialog when they come to me, and I even have an outline that I try to update on a monthly basis just to keep the plot fresh in my own mind.

Hopefully I’ll be able to participate in National Novel Writing Month in a year or two!
